JUNE MEETING

What a wonderful sunny day to be revelling in the camaraderie with friends!
Once again we worked on our own projects, helping one another as we created, learned and enjoyed the pleasures of our artful days

I love all of my ladies but I have to say that this piece is my favourite.
It belongs to Ruth and is executed totally in herringbone stitch with some areas padded...I love it! While you admire it, can you please see if it is worked on your background fabric of green circles and triangles please

Continuing our A5, multi-coloured swop shop group project, here is Clare's work
There is an array of threads, in a wealth of textures and weights, threaded through the open weave compulsory fabric provided by Ice.

We also need to identify the maker of this background, stitched by Ice which is nearing completion in a very striking colour scheme.

Loving the silver thread work Ice
Elaine's chain stitch work (below) with hand made paper beads is stunning as always. Elaine has used the back of the compulsory fabric so the pattern and texture is visible but not the colours. Another good idea!

Janet L., has used cross stitch  to wonderful effect and appliqued to give this lovely patchwork effect. I love the "snowflakes" and the tiny cross stitches around the edges of the applique pieces
Pat W., has added a few beads and some running stitches in the sky area since our last meeting, to complete her piece on this brightly coloured marbled piece
Debbie's garden scene is completely covered in fly stitch. Do you recognise the block printed background of blue leaf sprigs as belonging to you? Loving the hidden fence and garden gate in this magical garden

Luggage labels are to be completed to finish this project for the exhibition - I will announce this over the next week with instructions and a template to work from

OUR NEXT PROJECT
This was discussed at length today and we believe we have come to a group decision working in the style of the Artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser
We will each make the façade of a house on pelmet vylene, in the "loose" free style of Hundertwasser. Bearing in mind the strong, bold use of colour and shapes, we will individually stitch, print, felt and embellish in the techniques of our own choice. Strictly NO RULERS are allowed - draw it all freehand as Hundertwasser dictates. Establish fluid lines, even at the base of your house. We may display the row of houses with an undulating fabric in front of them.
You may include a Hundertwasser tree or shrub if it helps your design
Your house may be any width but no smaller in height than the longest side of A5 and no taller than the longest side of A3. Here are some visuals of Hundertwasser houses, to whet your appetite

Ready made fabrics and beads - a textile Artist's dream

May meeting 2014

All of our meetings are special but today was Very Special
 "Happy Birthday Dina"

...and thank you to Di for a wonderful cake
 We all enjoyed it!!
There was more to celebrate...our work
Jude's "multi-coloured swop-shop" is finished
Close-up of Jude's piece in french knots
Shows the "Ice" fabric which has been appliqued
This is Di's piece of a garden/vegetable plot on Jude's printed background. Ingenious!
Ice is making great headway with buttonhole stitch on a block printed background. Such a lovely colour scheme
Dina's work made a lot of progress today...and on her special day too...

Janet L. has used two of her "lucky dip" fabrics. One is being cut up and stitched and then appliqued in pieces onto the second background fabric
Clare is now well into the swing of the project...
...enjoying weaving techniques through the Ice fabric

Elaine's piece with wonderful hand made beads
Joy has used a lot of different techniques including a chiffon piece appliqued over cross stitched cords. A lot of texture is very evident
Margaret B has the most wonderful colour palette

Pat P has mastered the Herringbone stitch to great effect
Lillian's French knots make a very pretty garden of flowers
The Ice fabric has become a trellis for the flowers

Other work continued
and the concentration
and the decision making

...from Lillian's book cover
to Pat W's soluble "Looking Through"
Our next meeting is June 12th - hope you can make it

Ladies, please remember that you are all invited to the AGM
Friday 23rd May at 7.00pm.
There will be refreshments of wine, soft drinks and nibbles with a display from all of the groups who use the facilities at Bradmore Community Centre.

April Meeting

Here we are at our April meeting. Welcome back to Pat...we have missed you
Here we see our WIPs - we have begun our Multi-coloured Swop Shop pieces
Di is stitching on Jude's printed fabric. It is a representational piece depicting a landscape gardener's drawing design
Janet is working on Di's hand dyed background
Joy has covered the entire background of Lillian's bikini with the fabric from Ice. She has begun to weave through the open weave and the cross stitch has been worked beautifully
This is Pat's piece in running straight stitch. The background is marbled and a garden with fence and sunset, is emerging
Sylvia's embroidery is a wonderful applique piece with glitz. So much texture!
Elaine is using chain stitch to perfection. I love the idea of reversing the Ice fabric for subtlety

This is already stunning Sue. It will be amazing when it's finished

How beautiful is Heather's printed fabric using running stitch? Well done Heather!
Pat Paterson's applique is on a ready patterned fabric. The boldness of the shapes and the colours make this a great piece
Jude is very happy...her work is finished
A close-up shows the use of Ice's fabric cut and appliqued with French knots. The originator of the fabric background is Dina who had begun to needle-weave a small section (top left). Some hand made paper has been woven into the needle-weaving and appliqued top right.
We all worked very hard today...so much to do in preparation for the exhibition in September
Di worked hard as always...loving the knitted mug cover Di
Welcome to our newest member of Connect in Threads, Debbie, who is working on a lovely hand embroidery of her own design; a lovely effect
Lillian is working on her workshop piece using Lutrador and cable stitch on the machine. We hope to see this one in our "Looking Through" exhibition
 Everyone worked hard today...head's down!
Thanks to everyone who contributed to "Heather's craft table" by purchasing wool or bringing in candles/handmade goods for Heather. Keep it coming ladies
